Ludgvan to St. Michael’s Mount

Directions: St. Michael’s Way Part Two: Ludgvan to St. Michael’s Mount

There are two routes down to Ludgvan- via Gulval (towards Penzance and back along the beach) or  via the marshes (straight down through fields, woods and bird sanctuary). The alternative route down onto the coast path at Gulval is a good path to take to St. Michael’s Mount if the Marazion bird sanctuary is flooded.

Route A-  Ludgvan to St. Michael’s Mount via Gulval

Time: 1.6h

Distance: 4miles/6.5km

Go right outside Ludgvan Church and then left down Eglos Lane.

At the sharp bend the St. Michael’s way path goes straight on down the side of a cottage, along a hedge. Then down and along, running paralell to the coast. Cross stiles and along tracks to the Tremenheere Sculpture Gardens. The signs then take you to Gulval Church, and from there, take the lane down towards the sea, crossing both the A30 and the railway footbridge. Walk along the coastpath or the beach to Marazion and St. Michael’s Mount.

Route B- Ludgvan to St Michael’s Mount through the marshes

Timing: 0.75h

Distance: 1.75miles/3km

Leave Ludgvan Church, turning left and walking past the White Hart pub, and then after Rectory Cottage on the right hand side you will see the St Michael’s Way sign which leads you through beautiful agapanthus and broccoli fields with stunning views of the Mount. Continue down a well cared-for path and find your way to the junction at the A30. Cross the A30 and into the 3 fields of the Tilly’s dairy farm, following the signs.

Then across the A395 through to a small pine grove, the marsh, across the railway line and into the Marazion Bird Sanctuary, where you are greeted by birdsong. On arrival at the road, head for the dunes, go across the Red River and walk along the beach to the causeway.
