Gwithian – Hayle Viaduct 1¾ Hours

Hayle Viaduct – Lelant 3/4 hour

Look on the opposite side of the road from Gwithian Church for the green footpath sign which leads you to the coastpath.  Walk in the dunes for a long time if at high tide or for a long way along the sandy beach, emerging at the newly restored Hayle harbour.

Walk into Hayle bearing right, passing the engine sculpture and reading about Richard Trevethick, and of Hayle being the unlikely birthplace of the Industrial Revolution. At the viaduct go past the ASDA supermarket, take the side road to be able to walk in the middle of the estuary (an area beloved of birdwatchers) which will emerge at ‘Tempest’ photography factory.

Follow the B3301 round, past Griggs Quay Pub and the Bistro. Go down ‘The Saltings’ road, go up and rejoin coastpath, following signs to St. Uny Chuch, Lelant and the beginning of St. Michael’s Way.
