Saturday walk programme 2025
Join us for a Walk ON THE cornish celtic way- visiting places of the cornish celtic saints’ heritage and with inspiration from the guidebook ‘A cornish celtic way’.
PLEASE NOTE:
We will be walking from one place to another, so that drivers will be offered a lift with another person in order to return to their car from the end of the walk. Please bring your own refreshments / packed lunch. There will be car support for those who are unable to complete the whole route. Walks will generally be 4-6 miles.

ST BREOCK DOWNS TO ST ISSEY (4.5 miles)

- 10.30 meet by the Longstone (St Breock Downs monolith) at St Breock Downs wind farm PL30 5PN
- 13.15 arrive at St Issey Church
This is a lovely walk, downwards, towards and overlooking the Padstow estuary. Mostly in fieldsThere is ‘free parking’ nearby shown on ‘google maps’ ? Otherwise, please park safely on the side of the lanes not far from the Longstone / St Breock Downs windfarm gate.

Lansallos to polruan (6 miles)
Challenging
Suitable for dogs on leads- challenging- steep parts with stiles. There is a National Trust car park at Lansallos.

12.15 Packed LUNCH at St Wyllow Church, Lanteglos-by-Fowey PL23 1NQ
16.00 Approx end at St Saviour’s Chapel car park on St Saviour’s Hill, Polruan
A beautiful walk along the coast path giving tremendous views of the South Coast. Then inland at Lantic Bay to visit the lovely parish church of St Wyllow and along the Hall Walk to Polruan. Ending on St Saviour’s Hill at the ruin of the chapel next to the coast guard lookout.
There are some toilet facilities at lunch and at Polruan.

Crantock to Cubert (3 miles approx.) EASY

- 12.00-12.30. End at Cubert Church
Visit the beautiful church at Crantock, and a walk across Cubert Common to the hidden Holy Well on the golf course. An easy peaceful walk with no stiles but some slopes and steps.
Drivers will be returned to their cars at the end of the walk. Toilet facilities at the start, end and en route.
Cafe facilities at the end.

GWITHIAN TO CARBIS BAY (8.5 miles approx.)

- 16:30 approx. end at St Anta Church, Carbis Bay
A stunning walk of coastal scenery and stories of the arrival of Celtic Saints from Ireland. Walikng along Hayle Sands, climbing up the sand dunes to Phillack Church, then along pavements in Hayle until taking lanes to Lelant Church. Then another beautiful section along the coast path to look down on Hayle Estuary and Carbis bay beach. Ending at St Anta Church for a cup of tea.

A beautiful walk on the Saints Way section through Luxulyan Valley by the viaduct and then in the quiet woods beyond Luxulyan. Then on a lane alongside boggy woodland and finally to climb to the top of Helman Tor – which is new for the Cornish Celtic Way walking group.

A walk discovering St Constantine’s Celtic Chapel and Well ending with some coast path walking from the stunning Constantine Bay beach to Treyarnon Bay with views towards Trevose Headland.

A walk from the impressive church at St Eval, along paths in the wooded Lanherne Valley, including some road walking. Arriving at St Mawgan Church to see the crosses, including the beautiful Lanherne Cross.

BREAGE CHURCH TO GUNWALLOE CHURCH COVE via PORTHLEVEN (3 miles or 8 miles)

This is a fundraising walk for the Samaritans as part of their National Coastpath Walk 2025 on 27/9/25. Join us for the 3 miles Breage Church to Porthleven Harbour on inland lanes and tracks, and if you wish, continue for the long coastpath walk of 5 miles further to Gunwalloe Church Cove over the challenging gravel stretch of the Looe Bar. Car support lifts will be available to return walkers from Porthleven to Breage. The walk to Gunwalloe Church Cove, to visit the church dedicated to St Winwalloe, makes a challenging length of 8 miles in total. There are toilets and a cafe until 4pm at Gunwalloe Church Cove.
Breage Church is very interesting for its Celtic Saint history and also for the medieval wall paintings. The painting of St. Christopher will inspire us for our crossing of the windy Looe Bar of sand/gravel.
We will pause for 45min in Porthleven for lunch. Lifts avalaible back from Gunwalloe Church Cove to Breage as well as from Porthleven to Breage. (There are also buses from Porthleven to Breage.)

Gulval CHURCH TO MADRON CELTIC CHAPEL (5 miles)
CHALLENGING or EASY if you start at MADRON CHURCH…..
- 10.00am meet Gulval Church (park in the village)
- 12.30pm Madron Church for lunch (3 miles approx. in total, 2 hours walking given the terrain)

1.30pm leave Madron Church for the Celtic Chapel / Baptistry with a prayer & reflection(1.75 miles round trip, 1hour walking in total)

3pm arrive back at Madron Church, drivers returned to cars to Gulval
.A challenging walk on footpaths between Gulval Church and Madron Church , ending with a walk to the Madron Celtic Chapel where we will have a simple service. You can join us at Gulval Church at 1000am or meet us later at Madron Church for the walk to the Celtic Chapel. The walk to the Chapel is easy, however, the walk from Gulval to Madron Church is challenging with surprisingly steep sections and stiles.
